What do you mean by rare? Some coins are so rare, that even if you had the money you could not buy one. Some coins the exact mintage is known and some may be in museums and only a couple available for sale like the (5) 1913 liberty nickels. I think all serious coin collectors would love to have a rare coin. Some coins are rare only in top uncirculated grades and those don't interest me. I like real rare coins, not the grade rarity type. In reality I just like coins, but mostly historic ones. A lot of coins from the Civil War era are not really rare or even scarce, but all have a tale to tell. Numismatics is the hobby of Kings and one can learn a lot about the world past and present, by collecting and studying coins. Remember coins without coin books, leads to very little knowledge.
