I'm afraid we have more roles than ever. The woman's role has evolved over the years to encompass more duties than ever. At one time, we were in charge of the household, the children and the food. We did what was best for the family which meant working in the home, tending the garden and expecting the man to provide the necessary income for the family. World War Two saw married women working outside the home for the first time (generally speaking). The fifties saw the woman return to the home, though some had been bitten by the work bug and the trend increased. Now women are mothers, providers, employees, employers, caregivers, household managers, chefs, and the roles only continue to increase. It is hard for many families to get ahead when only one member works and especially hard when women are single parents. Rising education costs, housing costs, necessities of life costs, and keeping up with the Jones' costs keep women working harder than ever, all while trying to live up to the stereotype of the perfect, home made cookie baking housewife. I say this with no bitterness as I am glad to be able to do and achieve anything I want. However, the man's role in society now needs to be adapted much like the woman's has, and that is happening much slower than woman's adaptation. Interesting question though!

There are different branches: Prostitutes, WIves, Mothers, Career, & Holy women.

Basically the same branches as in past, but the percentages and esteem associated with each has switched. Yes, many have to mix & match this throughout life changing as life changes with them.

Whatever she says it is. Some women choose to be stay-at-home wives and mothers. Others, like myself, choose to be career women. Others combine the two. There are no rules anymore.
