i've been looking at php websites and they all seem boxy and boring. does php limit what you can do with nice layouts with graphics.

Zspace hasn't a clue what he is talking about. Php is not a substitute for html, css and javascript, it's a server-side scripting language for putting the pieces together to create a web page dynamically.

As I suggested in my response to your later question, the amateurish look of a lot of these sites is because php is cheap and easy to use, and therefore accessible to a lot of amateurs.

The scripting language itself does not limit in any way how the page is laid out or what sorts of components it can have. You might as well ask why so many crappy novels are written with Microsoft Word.

I guess you're looking at wrong Web sites... Seriously, though, scripting language you use has nothing to do with layouts and graphics.

it takes a whiel fro php to load and there are less functions then with HTML and Javascript and CSS, so yes they do look plain
