what in our minds does that?

Media.

It shapes the way we think. They constantly tell us that for a girl to be pretty she has to be a size 0 or 2, have big boobs, have a big butt (but not too big! it has to be able to fit in those tiny jeans and if i can't then you need to lose a couple pounds!), flawless skin, gorgeous long hair and look perfect everywhere we go.
And that's not true. A lot of girls try sooo hard to be thin so that a guy will like her. Although some do, not all guys like girls that are stick thin! I know that my brother and some of his friends always say they prefer a girl with "junk in the trunk" or a girl with curves or someone a little chubbier, however you want to phrase it. They prefer girls who aren't obsessed with being thin and fitting into a size 6, so that way they have no problem going to burger king to get a whopper and fries every once in a while.
Being "fat" is not ugly...being "thin" is not ugly.
Being UNHEALTHY is ugly. Whether that means you are obese, or you're anorexic.
Being a little overweight isn't all that bad, it just give you extra curves and makes some clothes look better on you...a friend of mine gained 15 pounds and then fit into a size 8 or even a 10 and things looked better on her! she wasn't trying so desperately hard to be thin.
Being very overweight is unattractive. it's not only unattractive, it makes it so that clothes don't fit. It also is a hazard to your health. that's what makes being "fat" ugly.
Being underweight is unattractive. If a woman is so skinny that her bones jut way out and she can't even fit into a size 0...that's unattractive. We weren't made that way! Don't torture yourself just to look like the media's definition of pretty.

The reason is because in today's world most people are slim and then some people are just taking it to the extreme. The fashion and beauty magazines also promote this belief as most of the persons in them are thin.

Another reason is because most of the fabulous clothes sold in stores these days are for people who are slim so it makes everyone else think that only if you are thin you are beautiful and it makes people want to be slim too.

So because of all this our minds start to think that you are only beautiful if you are slim. Then someone might make a mean remark about your weight and your mind starts to think that maybe the person who made the comment is right and i am too fat.

You just have to accept the way you are and know that thin is not the only weight that is pretty. Size 0 is NOT pretty neither is 'rail thin'.

Just look at the fashion magazines and the movies; the female lead is generally 20-40 years old, and between a size 0 and 8. Also, many men look for and are seen with the same type of woman. I can think of many successful and notable women and only a few of them are "plus" sized. I think the fitness industry also shows thinner as "healthier". Overweight is equated to unhealthy. Look at TV shows like "The Big Loser" or "Celebrity Fit Club" and you get another message regarding weight. There is some hope in the fashion industry as they have recently put a special focus on underweight models.

We have been programmed by the mass media and fashion industry to think this way. Up until the early 20th century, it was considered attractive to have a few extra pounds. If you look at art work from ancient Greece and Rome through the end of the 19th century, women were represented with plenty of sensual curves that accentuated their beauty. Men however, were usually painted or sculpted as have strong, powerful physiques. I believe that if we all look for the inner beauty in someone rather than their physical appearance, this would be a much better world.

Historically what is considered 'pretty' is that which shows wealth, success, and rarity. When food was scarce, fat was beautiful. In modern America, meats and fatty foods are cheaper than lean foods, so thin is in. Pale and pasty were once in fashion because it showed you didn't have to go out in the sun to work. Long nails are 'pretty' because they show you don't need your hands to make a living. Plastic surgery is in because everyone gets older, but a youthful look suggests a lack of stress and the money to stop the signs of aging.

it has to do with alot of things, i mean, especially men, seem to to think that a smaller body is more apealing in something short and skimpy than a larger person would, also, skinny people have more energy to walk on run ways or excersise or do commercials and larger people don't! also when high fashion designers hire models, they hire people who look very appealing in their clothes so that other people can think they will look just as appealing and buy the clothes. Another reason is that larger people have way higher risk of getting serious health issues and thin people do not, so the world markets off of healthier people to get other people motivated to get fit, when in reality, all it does is hurt them.

This is simply a self doubt or judging thing in our minds. we see these stick thin models in the magazine who are classed as flawless people then feel they have to be like that. Psychologically, especially with young influence people, they start to feel uncomfortable in themselves however this is not necessary unusual as people grow up and discover themselves they doubt their body's. So it not necessary our minds but the media and the society we live in.

Movies and TV present that idea to us. Fat people are ridiculed or pitied. Thin people get mates. And mates are what life is all about in Hollywood. 100 years ago fat was considered attractive because only wealthy people could afford enough food to be fat. Now with our processed, fat-producing foods and sedentary jobs, only rich people can afford to get enough exercise to stay thin.

As long as people are within their normal weight range, it is fine. But too thin or too fat is unhealthy and unattractive.

may be some people think that way but that way is wrong, i wanna say that any one think that fat people is ugly he is completely wrong because fat people are still human like us ,why we make them feel that the ar strange people?
why we hurt their feeling by ignore them get a way from them make them feel that they are lonely?
it is not their guilt that they are fat , they need us to be their friends they need us to make them trust their selves again, I think we should correct our thinking .......
