This is tricky, from the English point of view. As a Geordie (native of Newcastle upon Tyne), I feel more affinity for the Scots than I do for the English in the posh Home Counties. After all, Scotland and the English North East mined coal, made steel, and built ships, but all the profits went south. England is not one nation, as the Cornish, Devonians and East Anglians would attest to. As a Geordie, I would ask that Newcastle be considered Scottish. We are, after all, on the better side of Hadrians Wall.

i dont but im half scottish though live I in England. I have alot of family in Scotland and visit regular. i think all the countries in the union wales and northern ireland as well should have referendums to settle the issue.
both countries would be worse off without each other. scotland would lose some investment. but get more control over there natural resources like north sea oil which would be bad for england and of course around 60% of the british army are scottish. so i hope they stay together.
living in newcastle i also agree with foghorn.

I'm Scottish and have lived in England for the past 40 years. My ex wife and my children are English. I hardly know any of my Scottish relatives and accept England as my country and they me. It 'grates' when people start going on about England being run by the Scots or vice versa. There are a lot good English people who live in Scotland.
There are ALWAYS exceptions to the normally friendly Scottish and English people . These people cause wars because they shout louder, use devious tactics to scorn and use violence to uphold their views. These are the s**t who eventually get some sort of power or standing ( think of Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinnes for example).
Also, why can't these 'exceptions' see,...... that its does'nt matter WHO runs the country...........They're ALL lying, cheating, drunken, brawling halfwits.....no matter what accent they use!!.

I do not think there is much economic benefit for scotland splitting up from the UK. And the Scots already have much devolved power to take decisions for themselves. So what would be the point?

Remenber that Scotland was united to England by felony !
So, it's fair for all places of this country to give their feeling likes now Great Britain is part of European Union .

As a Scotsman I ideally think we should be independent of England but our economy, infrastructure and military are so linked with theirs it would be hard to do.

It would be a shame if Scotland was on it's own. We should be proud to be sharing one monach and government. My husband is Scottish and i'm English he is proud to be part of GREAT BRITAIN and not just a proud of being a jock.
