You have to wonder why someone would spew such vileness & hatred....unless they were secretly afraid of unspoken feelings.

Not strictly speaking. But I guess you'd have to define 'homophobes'. If you mean truly "phobic", as in filled with unrealistic fears, the person in question certainly has psychological problems some of which may include fears of their own homosexual desires.
If on the other hand, you define anyone who disapproves of homosexual behavior as being homophobic, then I would have to say there are all kinds of reasons one might not approve of homosexuality.
The fact is, most people have at one time or another had just about every kind of desire imaginable--- but all but the psychopath chooses which desires to act upon and which to suppress, or ignore. And each person has their own reasons for every decision they make---whether someone else thinks it is 'right' or not.

Tests have been done and yes, MOST are. Not all, but technically, MOST are.

They did the tests by taking 120 students. Sixty (60) were gay friendly (they had gay friends or family members) so gay people were actually in their lives on a daily basis.

Then they took 60 "self-declared homophobes" and noted that these people not only didn't know gay people, they didn't want too.

They then tested the gay friendly version by putting them in one at a time in a sealed, closed room with only an easy chair, kleenex, and a videorecorder and television. They then attached a oval ring to measure blood pressure around the pen*s and put on gay pornography for 30 minutes. They then measured the blood pressure gauge for 30 minutes.

They then tested the homophobe group the same way.

The homophobe group was aroused 70% of the time the movies were playing compared to 10% for the gay friendly group.

No, while it may be true for some, being homophobic doesn't necessarily mean you are suppressing homosexual desires. It means you fear what is different or unknown.

Most homophobes are people who have been brainwashed by the church to hate and fear homosexuals. It's hard to get past that illogical, biased training. There are some men who are so afraid of their own homosexual feelings that they lash out at other gay men - including killing them. If we could teach everyone that gay people, bisexuals, and trans people are just people too, it would make everybody's life better.

Some are, to be sure. But then again, I've found that sometimes there is a deep-seated sexual fear influencing them that has nothing to do with their orientation or anyone elses. The sexual orientation of others is just a trigger for their own secret sexual fears that might involve sexual abuse as children, incest, affairs, etc.

I think there is a chance that some are actually not straight themselves, but I also think there is a huge number who just plain feel uncomfortable about sex.

Make a blanket statement about any one group of people and you're bound to find lots of exceptions. I'd some perhaps some, and with some its taught as being acceptable. I'm certain there are some who, for their own reasons be it mental problems or religous beliefs, or a myriad of other circumstances develop homophobia through no intentional doing of their own.

Some. Not all. "Homophobes" and most people all together don't accept the concept of loving freely, NON-SEXUALLY, and equally. I believe that no matter what a person "desires" they deserve to be treated equally but we shouldn't have to congradulate them for being "gay." We're all people. We all deserve to just...live.

Yes, homophobes are one of the few kinds of people I can honestly say I hate, they're the kind of people who label what they don't understand as wrong or disgusting. Personally I'd like to know what their problem is but oh well.

It can be, but more often, it's just because we don't like gay people or don't want to be hit on by them.

Seriously. I'm not a homophobe, I have several gay friends, but my lesbian friends consistently hit on me and call me a homophobe if I turn them down. There are a lot of reasons to dislike gay people if you're straight.

Some. Not all homophobes are really homosexual -- Most of them have just been indoctrinated with a narrow-minded, parochial view of the world. I believe that it is just plain ignorance.
