Male birds have to be pretty to attract the females but the females need to be less colorful as they are the ones that stay on the nests and their color needs to protect them not attract things to them

In the animal kingdom, it's the males that do the courting. They have to look better to get the females interested in them. We humans are the opposite.

because the females are supposed to be hidden in their surroundings. most of the time the females are brown or some plain color to blend in because if they get eaten no one will take care of the babies
