The alarm should disarm when you unlock the drivers door. Perhaps the lock/alarm set up has developeda fault as this is what happens when you turn the ignition on while the alarm is still activated (car locked)

Have you tried unlocking the passenger door with the key. I have heard of an alarm sensor problem with the drivers lock (wear and tear etc as that lock has been used for the past 11 years!)
Thus unlock the passenger door first and you may deactivate the alarm - its worth a shot

Is the alarm a ford original with central locking? if so and you are opening the door with the key and not the remote button then the system still thinks it is armed, so it is worth getting the key tested to see if it is faulty.

If i remember right the alarm is integrated with the drivers door lock. Make sure you open that first rather than using another door to open the central locking

With most alarm systems when you push the unlock button and open the door, the alarm is off. If yours is not working correctly, have it looked at. It will depend if it's factory or an add on of course.
