you dont get cut stone to adhere to your wall. if you want it stuck to your wall buy cultured stone, an artificial stone product. cut stone is laid in a bed of mortar from the floor up.you can mud the back of the cut stone as you lay them but you may push the wall over if you start putting too much mud behind it. cultured stone is a light weight stone product that is mortared to the wall with type "n" mortar and then tuck the joints between the stones when you are done.
