Jpg (or jpeg) is a graphics file format that lets you save full color picture in compressed form. The tradeoff is that a certain amount of detail is lost in the process, but generally not enough to make a difference on a computer display.

Jpg is the most common file format on the internet; the only other formats supported are gif and png.

Just about any graphics editing software, including Windows Paint, can save a picture as a jpg - just go to "save as" under the file menu and select it.
