In the past few days, my daughter (5 months), doesn't make sound when she cries. Like she's loosing her voice. It sounds so sad.

She has NOT had a cold, fever, runny nose..or anything else. And she hasn't been crying any ore than usual.

And please don't waste your breath and tell me to "See the pediatrician" It's saturday, they are closed untill Monday, and it's not an emergency so I won't have the doctor on call paged.

Can anyone help?

If there's a Murphy's Law that applies to parenting, it has to be this one: "The seriousness of your baby's illness will always be inversely proportional to the ease in which you can get in touch with your baby's doctor." In other words, you can expect your baby to come down with a raging fever exactly 10 minutes after the doctor's office shuts down for a holiday weekend. While you always have the option of finding an after-hours clinic or dragging your sick baby down to the hospital emergency department, that usually means sentencing yourself to an interminably long wait in a stuffy room that is overflowing with sick and crying children and their totally stressed-out parents—definitely a less-than-ideal state of affairs.

When my pediatrician is closed, someone is always on-call. Either call the office and listen to the message for whom to call, or call the hospital and ask for Maternity- speak with a nurse on duty. I would be concerned - I have a nearly 5 month old baby, too. NEVER rest until you get an answer and go with your gut. Better safe than sorry!!!!!! It's your child and Dr.'s and nurses are human and make mistakes.... So it is your job to protect your child!

My 18 month old did the same thing. For her it was teething. And she did start cutting teeth around 5 months. If she does not seem to be in any pain I wouldn't worry. Even at this age every time she starts cutting a tooth she gets hoarse more easily.
Trust your instincts, if you don't feel the need to call a doctor than wait till Monday.
I do agree that it sounds sad, I think it bugged me more than her.

I don't think that you should panic I don't think it is serious. She probably has a little cold. Maybe she will or will not develop any other symptoms. We all have lost our voice at on time or another. See the doctor on Mon. anyway to check it out but in the mean time you can try taking her in the bathroom and run the shower hot and let her breathe the steam.

Well If I was you I would take her to the ER. About 5yrs.ago my cousin baby was doing the same thing. When she would cry they couldn't hear her but they knew she was crying becouse the faces she would make. So after a few weeks they finally decided to take her to the Dr. and they didn't get good news. So if I was you, and NO I'm not wasting my breath OK take that kid to the ER.

just call the ER and ask to talk to a nurse she will tell you what to do to come in or not that's what i would do. they don't always page the doctor unless they need to but they will be happy to answer your questions its better to be over worried then not at all. good luck.

The ER and urgent care clinics are open on Saturday. If you were that concerned, you'd take her there instead of asking Yahoo Q&A.

Maybe try giving her some juice or something to moisten her throat. Try and check her throat for redness or swelling...good luck.
