Of course I expected you to say Girardi, after all, he's the Yankee manager right? I guess the fact that the Yankees won a World Series with him as manager two years ago doesn't mean anything. Yes, the Yankees have a high payroll, but they have some older players on the downside, and some players who have been slumping for much of the season--but they have been at or near the top of the A.L. East all season. So, no, he's not overrated. In my opinion, the most overrated manager is Jim Leyland. He had some success with Pittsburgh when they had Bonilla and Bonds in the early '90s, and won a World Series with the Marlins in 1997--but he hasn't won anything since. I would also put Ron Gardenhire on that list as well. The Twins get to the playoffs almost every year, but can't seem to make it far at all. In the National League, it's Tony LaRussa. You would think he's a genius, but in over 30 years managing, he's won only 2 World Series, and had a lot of average seasons. Yes, he won in 2006, but it was his 11th season with the Cardinals before they won, and they haven't come close since. Not sure why the guy above listed Don Mattingly, it's only his first year and the Dodgers are a mess. I don't think some people know what "overrated" actually means. It means that someone gets credit for being better than they actually are. I don't hear anyone calling Donnie Baseball a great manager yet, but he will be one day.
