LONG BEACH, Calif. Feb 3, 2007 (AP)— Four of nine black teenagers convicted in the racially charged beating of three white women on Halloween were sentenced to probation Friday.

Punishment could have ranged up to confinement in a California Youth Authority lockup until age 25. The teens were ordered to serve 250 hours of community service, 60 days house arrest, and take anger management and racial tolerance programs.

The victims appeared in court earlier this week to tell the judge about the impact of the assault on their lives.

One of them suffered facial fractures in the beating, and deputy district attorney Andrea Bouas told the court she was having surgery Friday.

In her earlier victim impact statement she indicated she has psychological wounds, too.

"I'm not sure if all the emotional scars will ever completely vanish," she said. "I feel like the beating I endured on Halloween night is still not over."

I know, I heard that this morning on the radio, the judge should be impeached. I am certain that if the races were reversed and the whites were the perpetrators, we would have a totally opposite sentences.

Nope we need room in jail for mandatory minimum sentencing. I like the fact that Bank robbers that basically dont fracture peoples faces get at least 25 yrs because they are dangerous. I like the fact that we let the child molesters out in 2-3 yrs so they can reoffend. But joe pot head gets to stay in lock up forever. We need to change the constitution so the legal system is also under control of the democracy rather than the current system. We need to be able to can judges by popular vote. When the supreme court complains that they cant make ends meet on over 150k a yr they need to be voted out!!!

Marxist ... The info you provided says four of nine teens. Who/where are the other five? Might these five be the most serious assailants or did I accidentally get it backwards.

In any event, it seems like a clear case of light punishment. In my view, judges should hand out sentences as if the crime committed actually happened to themselves or to their own family. Why? Because to me, my life and family are just as important to me as the judge's family is to him.

What will it take to get more appropriate sentences? Will judges wait until the punks start to take over judges' neighborhoods?

If the roles were reversed racially, then it would have been all over the news, and they would have definitely had harsher sentences. People are so afraid of Al Sharpton and "activists" that are just basically bullies in most cases, they are afraid to do whats right.

Punishment on the subject count of the offense. on the top of the day its approximately appreciate for the rule that became into broken. so which you mentioned, she broke the rule of curfew. got here residing house previous due. for that reason, if her curfew became into 9pm and she or he got here residing house previous due at 10pm. that's one hour previous due. using fact of this next time, she has to come again residing house a million hour before at 8 pm. Its a delicate punishment, yet gets the message for the time of.
