when you see a single magpie and wink away the bad luck, then see a second magpie next to it, have you accidentally cancelled out the good luck of two magpies and hence created another single magpie situation? does this mean you have to wink again or does the presence of 2 magpies cancel out the original wink?

never heared of winking at a Magpie just of saying Morning to the first one you see and that does it , but again do not fret as their is no scientific proof of this superstition. Best not to walk around as if you have a nervous twitch anyways.

Again i've never heard of winking either...... my family has always touched their collar and said Good morning Captain..... but i'd do it twice in that situation just to be on the safe side!

I don't know about the winking, I always salute, and enquire after its family, but I would do it twice if they appeared one after the other, you can't be too careful
