My professor encouraged the class to visit Klan websites to find out what they believed and why. In this article that my friend and I came across, they wrote that black female slaves were allowed maternity leave and a year off from being a slave. They also said slaves were paid money if they worked well and sick slaves were also given time off. They wrote that they believed no black families were split apart and slaves were allowed to govern themselves. Despite all of the evidence that these statements are blatant lies, I don't understand how people could believe this. Even my parents were stunned at the lies and they are white! I just want to understand why people would re-write the past.

I can't imagine a slave owner treating their slaves in a harsh manner. Think about it, you need these people to work for you. Why would you think that slave owners would pay a lot of money for these slaves and treat them badly, It would be no different than having draft horses and keeping them outside tied to a tree in all kinds of weather, giving them the spoiled feed, and beating them because of poor performance in the field. I think this other propaganda is just to create strife between blacks and whites. They're saying sick slaves were given time off, Why? so they could rest to work a few days later. Yeah , I know, I used to think that if a slave would slow down the slightest bit it would be the whip, and that they would just get beaten to within inches of their lives. Have you ever tried to work when you were sick? I've tried and I can't get much accomplished, But apparently it would inspire the black slave to work harder, for fear of being whipped. I can believe they got maternity leave, but exactly how would you get a year off from being a slave? May have been slightly embellished. But far from the harsh treatment that is portrayed in the history books, and the media. The things you are railing against may be perfectly valid statements. "ROOTS" was just a movie, or could it have been the original re-write.

You could understand this; "that he who controls the past, controls the future" George Orwell

White supremists have always tried to cover their atrocities by rewriting history in the form of blatant lies or outright denial. They prey on the weak minded and under educated individuals in their ranks to spread this nonsense! After so long even a lie will appear true if it is repeated often enough. However, truth always prevails and knowledge reigns supreme over everyone! As a Black man who really loves peace I am saddened at the attacks made against my race on the few days which are set aside for us to enjoy our history.
Yet I am even sadder for the folks who would perpetuate this pack of lies and water the tree of hatred! Like Martin, I too, have a dream, that we will learn to respect each other. Respect will indeed open the doorway to mutual understanding and brotherhood.

there are many things being changed as times passes in regards to the history being taught in today's schools. suggest you be cynical and skeptical about certain information such as this until you talk or find out correct information by those who know what they are talking about. being here on the Internet there are numberless people who answer questions who have no idea as to the truth.

You're kidding, right? While I was growing up, the history books never mentioned the needless slaughter of the native Americans to acquire this land. I guess that serves them right for being on our land before we got here, huh?

Just like alot of groups that teach hatred they slant the truth or outright lie just to fit their needs...........there are lies in even groups that are suppose to be positive just to fit the way they want people to believe, on turn people are almost brain washed to their way of thinking. The majority of people that join these groups end up being weak willed and feeble minded.
