I believe so. There are some REAL nasty people on this Earth! Just ignore them as much as you can, that's what i do! Nastiness always stems from jealousy.

You know, it's funny you should say that. I always try to be nice because I'm a nice person, and when I'm not nice it's an entirely reasonable and understandable response to someone who's being nasty to me. People I meet, however, are often mean and rude to others for little or no reason and seem to enjoy it.

What do you think of that paragraph? Am I a little lacking in self-awareness, perhaps?

The first thing I noticed about your question was your use of the third person. You don't include yourself in the definition of "people". It seems you're never nasty to anyone, ever. In fact, it's so far from your own nature that you find yourself unable to understand how anyone COULD ever be nasty to another person and have to post on the internet in the hope of gaining some insight into this phenomenon that's so alien to you.

Climb down off your horse, my friend! The world isn't divided into you and the rest of us, or us and the rest of them. Do you think anyone sees themselves as a bad person?

Answer your own question: What makes you so nasty, on the occasions when you are nasty? Is it to make yourself feel better? You'll get a lot more out of a few minutes thought along those lines than from angry rhetorical questions that paint yourself as the innocent victim of the nasty old world.

Two quotes for you, neither of whose origins I can remember:

1. We judge ourselves by our standards, others by their actions.

2. Be the change you would like to see in the world.

Peace out.

These people are usually unhappy but very difficult to be nice to. I am being totally honest that this doesn't always work but because I do not think I am a particularly nice person . Each day (telling the truth it may not last more than a few minutes) if I get aggitated by someone my intention is to give them the benefit of the doubt. Examples being if I am in a queue for sandwiches and someone attempts to go in front of me I don't object. What made me at least attempt to be like this? Let me tell you. I was staying in a hotel in Mallorca with a buffet breakfast. I thought I was just standing there waiting on my toast from one of those big revolving machines. However, I must have been looking down in the mouth. A man from behind suddenly said to me "Cheer up you're on your holidays" Suppose he was quite justified in saying this as 99% of people there would be on holiday. In my case I was staying because I was attending a funeral of someone dear. What is the well known phrase You can't judge the book by the cover?"/

Most of the time it's for one of these reasons...
-Makes them feel better about themselves
-Makes them seem "tough" or "cool" infront of their peers
-Relieves stress by taking out their anger on something
-Puts the person in a place of power, like making them feel higher than the victim
-For pure malice... some people are just out there to make everybody miserable for the fun of it. How people can find hurting others as fun, I just don't know.

Hope that helps.

I think many people do not realise they are being nasty...they just don't like to think of the effect they have on others. There are of course some who thrive on being nasty as I think they feel superior as they can look down on you..and yes makes them feel less of a failure in them selves. I avoid those people..I consider my self old enough not to have to put up with it now! all the best

I reckon. The kind of person that would be unpleasant is usually insecure, and not the kind to take any notice of. Developing a thick skin means that you run the risk of losing some of your obvious natural empathy but you should take care not to let them get to you. Its hard and it usually comes with practice. Be sensitive but not vulnerable.

I think so because i come on here withan open heart and really hope to help someone, but you have your hateful people every where who just come on here to put people down and make a fool of themselves and those are the ones who need to get a life !!

Yes. Apparently they feel more superior, more like they're in control, more like a big man, tough man. They try to intimidate to make you feel like a bunny stuck in headlights so they get what they want.
Basically they are cowards.

Probably, but people who think they are perfect such as models, will probably be the most nasty to you unless you are like them.

It's usually because they mistake kindness for weakness and think they can bully. It is they who are sad bast*rds. Have compassion, they may get it eventually. Just be glad that you are not like them. It's their problem.
