First of all, I don't agree with your statement; I would stand corrected if you could cite me some sources.

It is only through vigilant preservation of personal liberty that this country will maintain its role as the example of freedom and opportunity in the world.

Well this liberal here knows that "freedom" is not free. However this liberal here knows that this war we are in has nothing to do with freedom.
I also know that this great nation of ours does NOT have equal rights for all.. Not everyone has the same "freedom" as others. and without me even reading the other answers to this question. I can almost bet that there is atleast one person who has made the comment "its because they're stupid liberals" or something to that manner.

100% agreed

i want to say this also:

Don't fall into the Democrat's trap of listening to the media about how bad the troop escalation can get.

I think of it like this :

You are trying to build a house (spreading democracy through iraq) so you hire 4 workers to build it for you (the 15,000 in Iraq)
but you want the house built in a month

4 months go by and its still not complete, what should you do?
if you were smart, you would hire more people (put more soldiers on the ground to get the job done quicker, and faster)

but you better hurry, the frame of the house is built, but there is strong winds from the north (sectarian violence in Iraq)
the frame on one side has fallen, and has badily hurt 1 of your workers ( casualties in Iraq)
so you should hire your workers fast and more than double there numbers so they can hold up the house of freedom and complete it in the time frame the American people want,
after the house is complete, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's can live safely in there new house, not having to worry about bombings, murders, death squads

if we want this war to be over ASAP, then there is no better way to accomplish that goal without this troop escalation

and for those who think that too many have died in the Iraq war, just remember this : more innocent babies will die today in America from abortions, than the Gulf War, and the Iraq war combined.

4,400 future soldiers, presidents, bankers, lawyers, engineers, doctors, nurses will die today

We don't think that at all. We are in a senseless war that has absolutely nothing to do with our freedom. Iraq had nothing to do with 911, it was that devil BinLaden. Bush has taken his eye off the ball and sent our troops into harms way for no reason!!!

Liberals are blinded by their own arrogance.
And freedom costs a "buck 'o five" actually.

They think everything should be free. It would enhance their "lifestyle". Free housing (other than parent's house), free health care (to keep them in drugs and AIDS & VD meds), free transportation (to their drug dealers and rehab), free food (for when they get off drug binges and need "munchies").

The same reason conservatives think freedom involves restrictions and domination.

It's all in the approach.
