My rat is about 7 months old. There is an open sore (almost looks like an ulcer). There aren't any others on her body. She also has no cage mates. I've started cleaning with peroxide and putting neosporin, but I'm concerned that it might be something worse than just a little sore. It seems pretty deep and its under her head, on her neck, so there is not much fat there. It has a small amount of green pus, but not very much. I've never noticed a bump or lump there. Any ideas???

It sounds like it could be an abcess that opened up or a cyst or even a tumor that was somehow torn, either way it sounds infected and he needs a vet for antibiotics and to have it removed. Good Luck

go to a vet for small or exotic animals and they can help you. It doesn't sound to good. Personally I would not use peroxide either. Even on a human you don't use peroxide in an open wound. I know that from being an EMT.

wow dont listin to dustin. it could be strangles? but i dont know if rats can get that. i would do what everyone else says and get him checked out. but if the pus is yellowish and if his nose is runny it could be strangles if rats can get that. hope it helps.
