Probably because they would not be accepted elsewhere. California used to be a Republican state. That changed when the hippy drug users moved in. When it was Republican it was clean, friendly, had low crime rates, and it was fiscally responsible. Now tourism is declining and murder is everywhere.
Liberals are destroying California. California spends over $10 billion a year on illegal aliens. They whine anytime California's Republican governor suggests taking away benefits from illegal aliens. California has to take out billions in loans to cover the debt.
Because of liberals, there are 3 million illegal aliens in the state all living off wages that are below minimum wage. Those illegal aliens are having so many babies they cannot afford to take care of. The government pays for nearly everything for the children of illegal aliens. Also, 95% of illegal aliens don't pay taxes since they enjoy working under the table.
Illegal aliens make 300,000 babies yearly and taxpayer pick up the costs for the babies.

My first guess is because it is such a large, populous state that runs, what?, some 2/3 of the entire West coast. Simple geography and demographics tells me there are "so many" of ALL KINDS in California.

Wow--this is a good question! I wonder if it has anything to do with California (and New England, which also tends to be liberal) being on the coasts, and thus having a longer history of multi-culturalism than the central states? The more people see of other races and cultures, the more likely they are to be liberal, just like the more educated a person is, the more likely s/he is to be liberal--really, it's not that the colleges are *indoctrinating* their students in liberalism. College students aren't that susceptible.

I'd beg the differ.
You don't know what a liberal is.
Lets just say that Californians are not open to new ideas... They just think they are.
They're remaking old blockbuster hit movies in Hollywood California because they know it'll make em' millions. That's not liberal, that's conservative.
