My baby girl may have a temperature and I've taken her temp under her armpit but is it better to take it rectally and do I add or subtract a degree at all if I do do it rectally?

Rectally will give you a much better reading,if you take it under the arm add 1 degree,when taking it rectally just the very tip of the thermometer has to be in her bumb.

Rectal thermometers are the most accurate. You don't need to add or subtract anything. However if you take her temp under her arm, you add 1 degree.

Take the temp rectally in an infant. Normal oral temp is 98.6. When taking temp in the armpit (axillary), normal is about 97.6. When taking temp rectally, normal is about 99.6. Make sure to use a water soluable lubricant when checking rectally, it makes it more comfortable on the baby.

the best way is to take the temperature for a new born is rectal. It's accurate.

Take it rectally. This is more accurate and if you call her health care provider they will probably have you do the same thing anyway.
