Generally, I think they say 6 months, but we did start a little early. I had a 9 lb. baby and our pediatrician said that when he can hold his head up without bobbling, weighs at least 13 lbs or doubles body weight, and still seems hungry after a full bottle, it would be ok to slowing begin to introduce cereal.

Interesting though - contrary to other posts I had seen, the dr. cautioned us NOT to put in in a bottle (choking hazard) and try little bites of watery cereal fed with a spoon.

Also - when we introduced cereal, our son became a little constipated and she recommended adding a Tblspoon of gerber pear juice to the cereal. Worked like a charm.

Good luck!

Ask your doctor. They usually have you add two ounces of rice baby cereal to a six ounce bottle to start with (rice has the least likely-hood of an allergic reaction). Just get regular rice cereal not the flavored stuff yet. After two weeks or so they usually will allow you to add other types of cereal. You must watch for an allergic reaction. If you see anything abnormal call your doctor immediately. Your doctor may let you start adding in cereal now.

I would start her at four months old as long as her health care provider is ok with it. Please feed her with a spoon and not rice cereal through a bottle. The baby can choke on the rice with the bottle.

I gave my daughter baby cereal in her bottle at 2 months and in a bowl at 4 months. Best time I read is to start anywhere from 4-6 months.

she sounds like she is doing good sleeping thru the night and drinking 6oz she might not be ready for any extra right now as you know cereal is only a filler so it might make her overweight putting her on it when she clearly isn't ready for it
