Try reaching around the front of your dishwasher to the dial where it shows where your dishwasher is in the cycle. Make sure it clicks all the way around to the top of the cycle. If it doesn't go all the way around, then it thinks it's still at the end of the last cycle and won't allow the soap dish to close. It's usually less than 1/4" off before it will close again.
And yes, you can run it without the soap door being closed. If it continues to be a problem and you don't want a mess, you can get the little gel packs of dishwasher soap and avoid the mess outright.

Make sure that the front of the dishwasher is at the off position! I've had my kids go turn the dial to something else. It won't shut if it's in a position where it's supposed to be open. Good Luck! :)

You can run it and it won't make a big difference. Usually when it wont close it is because someone opened the door and the washer thinks its supposed to be open. Close it, lock it, go to off, start and then turn to off again. Then start.
Or just as easy...... run it with the soap door open and it will reset itself for next time. You will still have clean dishes.

Stop using dishsoap? and use dishwasher type soap or packs. Drain it or cancel the job and restart. This will get alot of the extra soap out. Dishwashers use a different type of detergent because it uses extremely hot water to sanitize the dishes. The door acts as a drip plate and is open at the bottom so when bubbles come out, you get the message Wrong soap - try again.

Mine won't open when we close it, so the soap doesn't get used. So we just leave it open and run it normally, no problems so far.

Get a strong knife or a flat screw driver and very carefully scrape off the dried up soap or calcium deposits.

ours does not close either. We run it every other day like that and the dishes are as clean as can be.
