The batteries eventually loose the capacity to get a full charge. Check the Dell site for a battery utility, there may be a 'recondition' (fully discharge then charge) utility included, it should also give you vital stats about the battery.

Battery Life depends on what types of pragrams your using, using video or music software will drain the battery quickly, also some Sony Batteries have a fault and have been recalled you should check on the Dell website and see if the Battery in your second hand notebook has been recalled.

If you bought this second hand, you may need to replace the battery.
All batteries have a "memory" so if they are not run down completely and recharged, the time the battery will run for will be hugely reduced. (same principal as a mobile phone)

Check Dell web site for the cost of a replacement

Most likely the battery is to old to sustain a charge. You should be able to go to dells website and order a replacment or extra battery.

First of all, it's a Dell. But I would tell them your battery isn't holding a charge for more than 30 minutes. Make them replace the junk they gave you.

A broken DC jack is the main issue. 9 out of 10 times a resolder can fix it.

All labtops have LiH+ (Lithium ion) Batteries. These do not have a powere memory effect and are used for that reson. The problem is that they do not last foever. Odds are you need it replaced (geting it wet or leaving it in the sun will do that).
