In 1975 I thought he was looking to see the choir which were, as I recall, in a loft above the congregation, at the back of the Kirk.

The Royal Family, of course, occupied the "Laird's Loft".

It was interesting when time came for the collection, the usher went, bowed to the Queen, then went to the end of the row and passed the collection "plate" along it just like any other row.

The Moderator, from Portree, Skye, was in formal attire. For the "children's time" he explained what he was wearing.

Your question was listed under category of royalty so I guess your asking of a royal family.

Yes, I have seen the " reign " . . . In Balmoral, Scotland. There is a little church there that the local townspeople attend all year round. When the royal family are on vacation there, they also attend the Sunday church services. My mother and I were invited to attend church by the owners of a local bed and breakfast we were staying at . . . I saw the royal family there back in the 1970's.

I was 16, the Duke of Edinburgh noticed that I was sneaking a peek at his family instead of focusing exclusively on the church service. . . At one point he caught me glancing up to see them and I found myself looking eye to eye with the Duke of Edinburgh, he was smiling at me and gave me a wink. I quickly looked back down and blushed from embarrassment.

No, but, Shaq told me once " You Can't Stop The Reign " awhile back. And you know what? You really can't stop it.
