It could be a lot of things, but the most common, is your alternator could be bad, and you are running off your battery power, and if your battery cables are loose, it could shut off your car while driving, so I would start there.

Well, it would help if you gave some clues, like what kind of car it is (and what year).
A faulty ignition switch could cause the car to shut down. But also failure to get enough gas, spark issues, anything. You have to give us more information on what kind of car it is, and what happens when it dies on you.

The make, year. and model of your car would help people answer this question. Is it stalling out or just dying? It sounds like the alternator but could be a hundred other things. Check your spark plugs too.

your alternator is not charging your battery, so your battery might be dead, oh do you have gas, start basic work your way up. go buy a chiltons book for your make, model, year. and read the trouble shooting chapter, it will guide you through what might be wrong
