Well I am assuming you don't live in the U.S., the best way would be to maybe research the rules on the internet, and if all possible watch a few games, which may be difficult if you live outside the U.S.. Good luck.

Most of it is fairly obvious. But the complete rule book is quite complex -- the definition of fouls such as holding is complicated, and you pretty much have to believe what the referees say about penalties. Just to review the basics: The game begins with a kickoff, and the receiving team runs the ball back as far as it can. The team in possession has up to four plays ("downs") to move the ball ten yards; if they do so, the process is repeated. The object is to get the ball into the end zone (touchdown, 6 points), to kick it through the goal posts (field goal, 3 points), or to force the play to end in the possessiong team's own end zone (safety, 2 points). After a touchdown, the scoring team has the opportunity for a special play: either a field goal from a fairly clost distance (1 point) or, starting on the 2-yard line, to score another touchdown (2 points).

Ummmmmmm how do you even answer that? why don't you start by watching tonights superbowl, and next season get in a fantasy football leauge. You will be forced by default to learn all the players, their positions, and what they do on the field. Plus it will make the games more exciting. The only way to learn is by to watch. If someone explains it to you, it will sound alien.hope that answered it for you

Although my answer is too late for the SB, I highly recommend the book "Get Your Own Damn Beer, I'm Watching the Game" by Holly Robinson Peete. Even though it's specifically geered to women, it offers an easy-to-understand basic guide to the rules, positions, and history of the NFL.

I learned by watching and listening to others.

You can find information on the Internet.

Good luck and root for the Colts to win. OK?
