Avoid soft cheeses such as Brie and Bleu, Great Lakes fish and tilefish and swordfish due to high levels of mercury, and if you eat lunchmeat be sure to microwave it first to avoid listeriosis.

Salty things. If you start craving plastic or paint chips or things like that, just make sure you tell your doctor. You may have PICA. I'm not sure if its an old wives tale or what, but I always heard that if you crave ice, you may be iron deficient. Chili and pickles are definitely not out of the ordinary!

You can eat anything you want, but try to limit your self to:
One glass of red vine per day (no other alcohol is advisable)
Try not to smoke (really important and can cause health issues to the baby (if you smoke when you deliver your water will smell like tobacco and the baby can be a brownish color)
Do not eat sushi or other raw meat/fish
Try not to eat allot of tuna, swordfish or other seafood that is high in mercury
Do not eat raw or soft eggs
Do not eat/drink un-pasteurized products
Try to ignore blue cheese, Brie or other soft cheeses.
Drink allot of water/juice and eat when you are hungry.
Do not eat too much sugar and sweets it can give you pregnancy diabetes.
Enjoy your time being pregnant and give in to the cravings.
Eat chili as much as you want, it will not effect the baby but can give you heartburn so be careful.
Take vitamins and Folic acid.
Congratulations.

Some things are obvious, like alchohol. Some things you don't have to totally avoid, but should cut way back on, like caffeine and a bunch of junk food. Raw fish and eggs are a no-no. Some things are just wives tales and trust me, you will hear them all. But other than that, nothing, unless it doesn't agree with you and baby. Everyone is different as far as that goes. Just make sure you are eating plenty of healthy things for baby and you'll be just fine. Enjoy and congrats!!!

Me, too! Eating chili and pickles is fine to eat, just don't over do it, because since they are kind of spicy, that can cause heartburn.

My wife was told not to eat Runny egg yokes and rare meat. Probably other things as well. Alcohol in small amounts isn't bad they say. Chili and spices aren't bad at all.
