well, since there's lots of differences from one european country to another, it's hard to generalize, but in general, europeans are a little more wordly and aware of others than we are in the us. my husband's from europe and when I met him (he was 22) he was much more mature than american guys. he was more into talking about politics and big picture stuff, less into cars and drinking than lots of american boys. those were the main differences. also, he spoke many languages and the american guys i knew at the time didn't even have english down very well.
he was also incredibly respectful of women, which was a nice change, too.

Europeans are more mature, talk about and are aware of politics and current world events and are generally better at pointing out different locations on world map. In many cases, they speak fluently more than two foreign languages (normally English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian) and might be less superficial and optimistic in nature.
Americans, in turn, are more enthusiastic, more project-oriented and easy, more experienced in small-talk and socialising, more interested in doing and other verbal things than rational discussions...

They'll probably speak different languages or at least a different dialect.
