It takes a simple majority on most bills. To stop a filibuster or override a Presidential veto takes 2/3 majority.

Most it takes a simple majority, some takes a super majority 51 or 67 depending on the bill.

The majority of the Senators present for the vote unless its a tax increase then they need a supermajority.
