Sure we can. This occurs all the time at weddings:
The parents of the bride and the groom often experience happiness and sadness at the same time, and show it with the tears that well up in their eyes. We may feel sad that our "baby" is not going to be quite as attached to us any longer, any simultaneously happy that our child is taking this monumental step toward creating a family of his/her own. We usually think of these as being "tears of happiness," but there usually is at least a degree of sadness mixed in and expressed by them as well.
