Well, let us represent this problem as X + Y, X equaling 1 and Y equaling 1. If we add X and Y, we get X + Y. However, X and Y both represent 1, so they must be equivalent.
Therefore we have
X = 1
Y = 1
X + Y = 1 + 1
X = Y
Y = X
Therefore we can deduce that X = Y, which equals 1.
We also know that Y = X, which equals 1.
So our equation now is, again:
1 + 1.
This still leaves us with a problem. While we have solved for X and Y, we have not determined the sum of 1 and 1. Therefore the answer, by default, must be...
cosine theta.
God bless.

The questions "What is 1 + 1"? equals a loss of 5 points for you, but by telling you that the correct answer to this most basic of mathematical problems is "2", I gain the same number of points as the correct answer. Wow.

This reminds me of a joke:
An employer was hiring a new secretary. Three women were all equally qualified, so he decided to settle it by asking them each one question. the question was, what is 1 + 1?
The first woman said, two. The employer thanked her and asked the next woman in.
The second woman thought about it and said, well, could be two, or could be an eleven. Impressed by her lateral thinking, the employer thanked her and asked the last woman in.
The third woman said, "well, it could be two, or could be an eleven, or could be two parallel lines. It is three in base 2 and 7 in base six. It could be almost anything!" Again, the employer was impressed and thanked her before she left.
Who do you think he hired?
