Does it mean it is deferred, or does it mean that it was NOT?

The web definition says:

After a defendant enters a plea of guilty to the court, the judge may defer (postpone) the actual finding of guilt and place the defendant on a probationary term up to two years. During this time, the defendant abides by the same probation rules as a regular probationer, and if there are no infractions during the probation term, the case will then be dismissed without the defendant ever having been found guilty of the offense. If the defendant violates the terms of probation, then the case is placed back on the docket as if the probationary term never existed. The defendant is then “adjudicated” or found guilty and the full range of punishment can be considered.

Since you say the criminal record says terminated then the deferred adjudication must have been been terminated altogether. Do you live in Texas? Call the court and they can tell you exactly what it means and check out the links below.

Deferred Adjudication is a plea bargain agreement between a defendant, and a Criminal Court in which formal judgment
is withheld or "deferred" pending the outcome of the probation period.

If an individual is given deferred adjudication and he or
she successfully completes the probation and conditions assigned by the court, the charges are dismissed.

In order to obtain DA from the court, the defendant MUST either enter a plea of "guilty" or a plea of "no contest". Essentially, both pleas mean the same thing; with the exception being that a plea of "no contest" has certain advantages as far as protecting the defendant against any subsequent civil litigation proceedings related to the original crime he/she was originally charged with.

It sounds like you sucessfully completed your probation period and the case is terminated! Your "criminal record" MAY still show the original arrest but will also include the comment "dismissed."

Deferred means delayed or 'put off to a later date'. Adjudication is the judgment, fine, jail time, or other penalty. Terminated means deferral has been stopped and the penalty will be allowed to proceed. The term can refer to the terms of probation, parole, community service has been violated and jail time will start.

No it will not hurt your chance of getting a job because of it being deferred. If ever ask just acknowledge what happen in brief details...you shouldn't have to answer anything because that's the purpose in it being expunged.

if it will be expunged then you don't have to report it. that would defeat the purpose of sucessfully completing probation.
