First of all a dime in 1965 was still worth a dime. Thus, your essay should be short and sweet! Now, if your teacher asked the question what could you buy with a dime in 1965 as compared to now, that would be a little more challenging. Now about all you can buy is a piece of gum out of a candy machine, that is if your in a grocery store. In 1965, you could probably get more, but I was not alive then, so I would not know.

Based on a survey of retail prices advertised in the Daily Record, February 1-15, 1965, you could buy the following items for 10 cents:
One 3-oz package of Philadelphia Cream Cheese,
or 3 lbs. of onions.

Not much. A New York newspaper; maybe some candy. The site below doesn't help answer your question specifically, but in a way it shows how far a dollar went, but maybe you could use a little division and figure out how much a dime could get you based on what a dollar could get you. Good luck.

I used to buy large candy bars for a nickel around then, so two candy bars.
Some soda machines with the tall bottles were about dime then, I think.
Oh yes, and gumball machines were a penny, so 10 gumballs.

I'm in the UK and not sure what a dime is worth, not much I would imagine,
Why not put one in a worthy charitable box that would buy you the knowledge that you have helped a worthy cause, and assisted in making some one less fortunate smile,,,,,,,,,, happiness does not have to cost a lot ,

My Mom said she used to go to the movies and be able to get in, popcorn and a drink for 25 cents. So popcorn was roughly 10 cents.
