it can occasionally read the disc, its just not consistant- you have to keep on reseting the playstation for the ps2 to finally read the disc

If you have a disk read error on your playstation 2 console buy a dvd lens cleaning kit for under 12 dollars. Insert the cleaning disk cd into the ps2 system and let it clean. It may take one or two cleanings to fully work. Then clean once a month by repeating the above steps.

try cleaning the lens.just get glass cleaner and a que-tip.take your ps2 apart and then tak the cover off your ps2 drive and the lens should be in the middle of the drive.take the que-tip and then just barely dab it with glass cleaner then clean it.after you cleaned it with glass cleaner take the other end of the que-tip and start wiping off the glass cleaner.put your ps2 back together and then try it.
Try Blowing the inside of ps2 with an air can.

I recently started experiencing the same problem w/my x-box and I went 2 Wal-Mart and brought a can of air and it works for me......I also have a disc cleaner and I ran that through just recently and my x-box is just fine now.

DO NOT USE LENS CLEANER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This will only make problems worse for your PS2. just wipe the laser lens off gently with a lens cloth or something else that is lint free. Also when you take it apart try cleaning out the front and back vents.

Your disc reader may be really tousled. If its merely that sport it ought to easily be the disc or disc reader. If it occurs to all of your video games then its the disc reader scanner thingy.

THE PROBLEM MAY BE THE LENT TO READ THE CD. My suggestion is take it to a technician or if you know about it open the ps2 and clean the lent it may be dirty you know.

If you take out a game then put in another without closing the compartment first it doesent understand lol but i understand it can be annoying.
