First off, I don't know of any washing maching
that runs off of 240v. Unless it's a dryer you mean.
30amp breakers are the norm. But if you're not
sure how to do wiring, get someone that does.
I'd hate to advise someone about 240v and
read about them in the 2007 Darwin Awards
the next day.

If you are in the UK, new regulations require that you get an approved electrician to do any wiring work in your house.

Exceptions are simple replacement of sockets.

I assumed UK as you mentioned 240V.

In the UK most domestic washing machines are designed to simply plug in to a household socket. Our sockets are rated at 13 amps and the 'ring main' is fused at 30 amps.

Your washer should run off 110 volt.
