i beleive its winnie the POOH not winnie the POO

and i have no clue...why not?

Milne originally used the name Pooh for a swan in When We Were Very Young. As to why it was attached to Winnie's name, I can't find any specific reason.

It's actually spelled Winnie the Pooh. As to why he was named that you must ask the author.

The creator chose that. And "poo" is a word with different meanings (crap, poo-poo, etc.).

Pooh used to be a term of endearment for a small child or such.
