You always have to pay first on ebay.
First thing you should always do is check the sellers feedback, if they have a lot of complaints do not buy from them.
Even if the seller has a good rating always pay through paypal.
If you get your item that is great.
If not continue to try to contact the seller atleast 3 times through ebay email- keep the communication civil.
If you do not recieve your product within 2 weeks of shipment or if the seller just ignores you file a claim with ebay explaining your efforts to contact the seller.
It takes a little over a month to get a response in which they will confirm whether or not you ever recieved the item, if you have not they will refund the money to you about a week after thier confirmation email.

It is a pain to go through the process if you purchase from a fraudulent seller but atleast with paypal you will get your money back.

I had a bad experience buying outside the US. The policy is that if you buy with Paypal you have a 1 year warranty. Yes you do have to pay first before the seller even sends out the item; but I would never buy outside my own country. They charge alot more than what is posted because of the currency equivalent rates. Also if you are new to eBay you have to hire a mediator to dispute the transaction when it comes to currency equivalency.

i no what you mean, i buy a lot of things of eBay mainly records or music CD,s, toys for Christmas, i am a weary person anyway, i just make sure they have good feedback 100% with a high sell and buy rate ,meaning make sure they have about 150 positive feedback , i would never buy anything over 30 pounds i want a denon dns3500 CD player their £640 in the shops and on ebay i could get one for £540, i will pay£640 and not go through that horrible ript off feeling of thinking are they going to put a house brick in a box for you, or it breaks down 2 days later mine will be replaced the day after and if that breaks down that unit will be replaced after that you get your money back. on ebay you pay first then wait for the postman, like they say if its to good to be true it probably is. you get proof of postage, i only pay in postal orders a bit dearer but safer, ebays quite good just buy pass the rubbish you spot when something make you feel suspicious your right to feel it,

Only if you are collecting the Item in person from the seller & they say that you can in the auction listing. Otherwise No. Check their feedback before buying anything. Also, the price could be put into the postage to minimize their eBay fees.

Yes, he is obligated to pay, once he won the item. If eBay doesn't resolve this (non-payment), then you can sue in MN, he won't appear, and you will have a default judgment that you can file in California, perhaps seizing his assets, or placing lien on his house. Have fun, and don't let this punk get away with it. You could also inform the local CA police of "theft by deception" and have him arrested immediately.

send the seller a question before buying & check the wording on all items.
99.999% of things ive baught are as they have advertised, but one was an e,book advertised as a sat nav. pay pal & ebay sorted it out but we only got a certain ammount back not the full ammount.
but the seller does not have to post til he recieves his money. hence the extra charges for postage.

the only major down side to ebay!

If in doubt, don't with eBay. You aren't going to get a working, genuine XBox for that price, are you! Use PayPal for at least some protection from fraud.

You should always check the guys feedback before you even make a bid. There are some bargains to be had, but that is quite cheap. Plus you always have to pay before they ship the item.

With eBay (as with 99.9% of all purchases you make) you pay first, then get the goods.

But the example you have given? That is definitely a scam! No-one is gonna sell an X-Box for 60p...
(Unless that is the starting price and it has a reserve.)

Remember, if it looks to good to be true, it usually is...

No the way e-bay works is that you pay before the item is posted out to you.
If you are worried then pay via paypal
