I know this sounds stupid but does anyone know any old wives tales for me to try to have a baby boy?

Old wives tails can sometimes be based upon fact but for the most part, particularly those relating to pregnancy, have been proven inaccurate. What you want is to use methods that are scientifically sound, for example the Shettles Method.

The Shettles Method works along side conception methods such as Fertility Awareness Method [FAM] and Natural Family Planning [NFP], these are methods that use daily temperature readings, cervical mucus observation and cervical position observation to determine when you are fertile or not fertile – highly effective for conception, contraception and vaginal/reproductive/menstrual health care.

The Shettles Method was founded by Dr. Landrum Shettles M.D., Ph.D and has a 75%-80% success rate in choosing a girl, an 80%-90% chance of choosing a boy – taking into account biological factors such as if your partner has a low sperm you are more likely to have girls.

The sperm that carries the Y chromosome (male) are a lot faster and lighter than the sperm that carried the X chromosome (female) that are slower, however the sperm carrying the Y chromosome although faster are more delicate than the sperm carrying the X chromosome so die sooner after intercourse.

If you want a boy then you time sex to be as close to ovulation as possible so the sperm carrying the Y chromosome are the first to reach the egg, if you want a girl then you have sex far enough from ovulation so that the sperm carrying the Y chromosome are dead but the sperm carrying the X chromosome are still alive within the fertile quality cervical mucus (sperm can live up to 5 days within the fertile quality cervical mucus). In short – if you want a boy time it so that you have sex exactly on the day of ovulation.

Thus why it is easier to conceive a boy, as if trying for a girl you have to time it just right so that you have sex far enough away from ovulation so that the Y chromosome sperm are dead but close enough to ovulation so the X chromosome sperm are still alive. This is also why things like low sperm count can affect things as the same things that cause low sperm count would also see the Y chromosome sperm die quicker than the X chromosome sperm.

I would recommend the following books if you want to learn more about the method, although the books are not necessary it may interest you to learn more about it, evidence that supports the method and factors that could tip the scales;
'How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby: The Method Best Supported by Scientific Evidence' by Landrum B. Shettles and David M. Rorvik
'Choose the Sex of Your Baby: The Natural Way' by Hazel Phillips

If not already using FAM or NFP, I'm assuming that you are not, then I would highly recommend you do so not just because it will help you choose the sex of your child but because it has numerous other benefits – within three months of using FAM you will either be pregnant or have a good idea as to why you are not pregnant.

I would highly recommend getting this book;
'Taking Charge Of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler.
This book will set you back around £12 from Amazon or can be picked up at most book stores, and it very much worth what you pay for it teaching you FAM as well as addressing male problems with fertility rather than just female.

Web sites on FAM and NFP;
http://www.tcoyf.com – FAM.
http://www.28-days.com – FAM.
http://www.fwhc.org/birth-control/fam.htm - FAM FAQ.
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/2879/welcome.html - NFP.
http://www.billings-centre.ab.ca – Billings Ovulation Method.
http://www.justisse.ca – Holistic and FAM methods.
http://www.sisterzeus.com – Herbs and FAM methods.

You could try other less in-depth methods of calculating when you are fertile and so assisting in your choosing the sex of your baby.

CycleBeads that are beads that show your fertile and none fertile days, Boots also has an ovulation kit which consists of a little case with charts and a basal body thermometer for £12 that would be similar to FAM, NFP and other ovulation methods but without as much attention to detail – which you do not really need if planning on getting pregnant. You could also go the more hi-tech route by using computers such as Babycomp or Persona that will both tell you when you are ovulating – I do believe you can also get ovulation testing kits, however these are not as accurate at determining when you are fertile.

Another idea which would be simpler and cheaper, although not as effective, would be to use basic tracking methods and charting these in a calendar or online, there are a few web sites around, most will work on a method similar to the Rhythm Method where it determines fertile days in accordance to your cycle and previous cycles – i.e. your last period was on day x, your next period will be on day y, so your ovulation will be on day z.

There is an old wives tale about if you keep am mans testicles warm and in secure underpants then it keep the sperm at a higher temprature, which is supposed to help have a boy,but i am a mother of 8 and i have 7 girls and only one boy.
When i asked my consultant he says that the female cervix screens the sperm and removes certain chromozones which then turn it either into a xx or xy......

If you have a girl already then the likely hood will be that you will have another...Not much help but truthfull. I got my son as a set of twins, so i think he managed to slip in with his sister unnoticed...But saying that i would not have a boy idf one was handed to me..I stick with my girls so much easier to deal with than him......Good luck any way....

You can check out different internet sites. www.askjeeves.com. Just type in old wives tales on predicting sex of baby. On the other hand, you should be thankful you are pregnant and carrying till you have this child in your arms. Be grateful with what god gives you for there are people like me who got pregnant and miscarried at three months. People like you don't appreciate the greater things in life. What if you lost this child? You would feel so much guilt because I did when I lost mine. Grow up and be thankful you have the chance of becomming a mother and being able to teach this child things like your mother taught you. Hold on to this opprotunity and allow God to give you either or. good luck!

I have 6 boys and i don't think any old wives tales work. You should be happy with whatever you have. As long as they are healthy that's all that matters.

check out Shettles method!
Sex on or day after ovulation, deep penetration and best if female orgasms.
I tried the sex at ovulation an have a boy but was a 50:50 chance!!
But to be honest I was just happy to have a healthy baby this was just a personnal experiment and it was 1 or the other.

i Love how the men here want to take all of the credit! LOL

Actually, male and female sperm are differant, therefore you can alter your chances.

I recommend the book How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby by Landrum B. Shettles. It is easy to understand and gives very good instructions on natural gender selection.

You should start by not wanting to get pregnant, just have sex everyday or every other day and don't think about getting pregnant, just have fun with your partner. Get more useful information and guides to get pregnant here https://tr.im/g4kPB
after sex-put a pillow under your butt or prop your feet up on the wall so your pelvis is tilted
eat healthy
back off caffiene
workout, even if its just a 20 minute walk a day, be active.

I think you should not concentrate on that you should just pray for a healthy baby because the sex of the unborn child is only known by god he's the only one that decides who will have a boy or girl. Good luck with a healthy baby .

The father is the one who produces the chromosome that determines your baby's sex. Old wives' tales won't do it.
