It can deteriorate (i.e. its chemical composition change) if left in sunlight and/or somewhere particularly warm.

Try and keep your perfume off the top for your dresser (or at least still in the box) and away from the radiators.

Perfumes can defintely go off after a few years, especially if they use a lot of natural vs. synthetic ingredients. Sprays last longer than eau de parfum because no air can get in. I had a bottle of Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien that I had not worn for 2 years, and when I found it and tried it on it smelled horrible. I asked at the counter and the saleswoman told me that because they only use natural, not synthetic, essences, the shelf life was only 2-3 years once the bottle was opened.

It doesn't exactly expire. When it gets old, close to a year or more then the fragrance begins to smell off and can even stink.

Yes - if it is a botanical blend.
example - jasmine

No - if it is purely chemical but the fragrance will change and the chemical change mixed with the chemicals in your skin can cause it to be harsh or funky smelling.

Two years is usually the max time you want to keep it.

Sort of.....after about a year the smell starts to change, and eventually it will smell bad.
