My CD drive can read disks ok, and it goes through all the motions when I try to save something on to CD, but it won't complete finalization (whatever that is). I've tried using both Windows Media Player and Nero, but it is to no avail, and furthermore the disks I try to back up my files on become unusable after each attempt. Can anyone help me with this? I should add, perhaps, that I've just upgraded my operating system, which is Windows XP Professional - the drive was working fine before I did this.

Putting in a new OS system, but your drivers were for XP. Try reloading the cd drive drivers again. This is the only thing I can think of besides, maybe the drive is going bad.

Note - You know that it is better to save on rw -/+DVD. If you are using the disks for backup then DVD is the way to go. Plus the DVD has way lot more space to put files and copies in. Therefore less disks to store. My Recovery back disks is one DVD or 8 cds. Hmmm, didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which media to store the Restore program on. lol Of course, if you have a portable cd player, you would naturally burn in cd for the music and stuff.

Could be because the actual drive is not set up for the new disks. I had this problem and I put 'Nero' in my computer, I don't have a problem now, but can not download to the original program, it tells me that I need to up grade the drive. Maybe if you can get the disk for 'Nero' it will be much cheaper than getting the new driver.
