When America stands for corruption, greed, violence, arrogancy, rudeness, and cowardice? I just tell people I'm Irish. At least Ireland is a quiet little country that doesn't butt into other people's business, and they renowed all over for their manners and hospitality. I tell my kids to be ashmaed to be American, and that in a few months, when I move to Ireland to protest our criminal government, that they will forget they ever lived here.

You need to really find out what America stands for prior to asking such a ridiculous question.
If America was so damn bad we wouldn't have illegals breaking down the borders. Is so bad, we wouldn't have had boat loads of Irish people rushing Ellis Island 100 years ago.
America is great because the dream is available to everyone.
America will not stand idle as tyrants oppress the people of their country (Germany WWII-Somolia-Iraq etc.) Ours is the land of plenty. We feed 70% of the world. We pull together during times of tribulation (Katrina-World Trade Centers). The highest charitable donations per capita of ANY country.
We may disagree politically but when you call to question the nations patriotism, we all pull together. Our military might has prevented more wars than we have ever been apart of. We are a peaceful nation that has NEVER provoked a war (I can hear the anti-Iraq people now).
And the best part of the entire argument is this: If you really don't like being an American; in this country, it's OK to say that. We won't kill you or make you hide your face under cloth. If you want to leave, simply go to any one of a thousand airports and buy a ticket. We won't have gaurds stopping you.
I do question what type of parent would deny the children they claim to love the right to grow old in a free society. Think Ireland is "free". Maybe a few bombs exploding left by the IRA will clear up your senses.
Don't get me wrong....we have our problems. But if what you say is true about leaving....we will have one less problem to deal with.
May God Bless our Troops and God Bless America!!!

As a European I don't recognise your description of America. There is a lot of good in your country also. The things you are describing are not what your founding fathers stated the country stood for, you have a bill of rights which are inalienable to you. That is not the case everywhere. Don't confuse the corruption of the Bush Administration with an entire country. History won't remember Dubya's time well but if everyone who feels like you leaves then who will be there to stop him and those like him?
Why be ashamed of who you are? Seems to me you're an American who has the the good sense to know right from wrong and also has strength of belief. Good luck to you anyway.

I agree with you.... you shouldn't be proud to be American!! Travel anywhere around the world and you will realise why this is. I love many Americans, but I really dislike what your country stands for and the people who blindly take such pride in it, and most people I know from all corners of the globe feel the same. Congratulations for being awake to the reality of your country's situation!! Considering a disturbing majority of Americans don't own passports and receive the entirety of their information from your terrible media, that is a real feat!

Im sorry you feel this way. Quite frankly I believe that AMerica is the best country in the world. Look at all teh technological advances we have made since the industrial revolution. YOu say were greedy i say we give the most aid to 3rd world countries than any other in the world, not only government money, but people donate through private organizations. You say we're cowards, I say we're the most brave. We stand up for our beliefs. Our whole military is made up of volunteers, the bravest of the brave. THey put their lives on teh line so you can talk about the country they love so much that they would give their life like this. Actually, im glad your leaving this country, we dont need people like you. We can handle ourselves. It will be a much better place without you. AS for your kids, you should apologize now for depriving them of living in the best and most powerful country this world ahs ever seen.

Humanity is tribal by nature and no matter what sh#thole you live in there are those who in nationalistic ferver insist that you be proud to be whatever they feel their nationality is no matter what cretin is mismanaging it. The principles of America on paper are great but in practice are not what they were intended. I love the irish. I am damned proud of you for standing up to what you feel is right.

If you have to ask then you don't deserve to be living in this country. Move to Ireland where you will be happier and we will have one less leech bashing our country

You need to be proud of whatever makes you proud. Don't EVER let anyone tell you what to be proud of. If it doesn't come from deep inside of you...you shouldn't waste your time on it.
