God bless the child is an old old song most notably done by Billie Holiday. I don't remember any of Billy's songs having that in the lyrics.

And the singer is not Billy Joel. It is Billie Holiday.

Are you sure it's a Billy Joel song? "Mama May Have" by Laura Nyro, "Mama may have, Poppa may have, but god bless the child, that's got its own". I'll be watching to see if someone says that Joel did it. I've always been a fan. What album is it on, too.

THE SONG TITLE IS "GOD BLESS THE CHILD" BUT THIS IS NOT A BILLY JOEL SONG. HE MAY HAVE DONE A COVER OF IT, BUT IT WAS DONE MANY TIMES BEFORE DATING BACK TO THE 30'S AND 40'S. IT IS AN OLD BLUES STANDARD. MY PERSONAL FAVORITE VERSION IS BY A GROUP CALLED BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS OUT OF THE LATE 60'S EARLY 70'S. ENJOY!
