shoplift about $25.00 in groceries. You don't think this is the first time, would you call the police?

I hate it when I feel compelled to answer shoplifter questions, because my job is to apprehend shoplifters. Altough, as a grocery store owner, and a fellow single mother, I would not call the police, I would offer to help her out, maybe give her some things for free, or offer her a job. I know what its like to have to be able to feed your children. Tuff spot for anyone to be in.

Well, that's a tough one. She broke the law, but I can afford the $25.

If she's a regular customer, odds are I know her by name. I'd talk to her on the side and ask if she lost her job or something. I could offer to report her, or perhaps let her work off the money.

That's one each individual has to deal with.

I can't say that my answer is better or worse than another.

Yes, I would. Especially if she's a 'regular' - you KNOW it's happened before. Having children does not give a person the right to steal. And what stops it from being something bigger next time. And, what model is she showing her children? That it's ok to steal if you want something and can't buy it?

I would give her a warning first so that she knows that you saw her and will be keeping an eye on her. And tell her that you will have to call the police if it happens again.

yes, shoplifting is illegal and she broke the law. She should pay for her grocerys, and think of what kind of example she is setting for those kids.

I think I would confront her on my own the first time I saw her doing it and let her know that if I see her doing it again that I will call the police.

Yes, I don't care who you are or how many kids you've got....you shouldn't be stealing in the first place. What kind of example would that be setting for those children.
