In the Soho (for South Howard) area of Tampa Florida we have a steak house. Bern's (a family name) Steak House. It would be a guess that 3 months would be reservation time. It is over 40 years old.
They raise their own beef, you order it from the beef menu by thickness and cut. Their vegetables are grown by private gardeners for them only. When I was last there it was decorated old country, deep plush. I will say "Gosh awful expensive", it is truly for special occasions for the average person.
Upstairs is the Dessert Room. Yum Yum Yum!!! Totally fabulous!!
We have many many other fabulous restaurants in this area, we are a tourist state. We have Ruth Chris Steak House (expensive, we went there with a group of 16 people and dinner was $1600.00 (ouch), many Cuban restaurants, Seafood Restaurants, The Melting pot (as someone else mentioned) a favorite would be impossible. But Bern's sticks in my mind the most.

Here's a few random, fast-food type places I can think of that are area-specific:
In L.A. - Pink's Hot Dogs (hour + wait in outside line, but famous and worth the wait)
In L.A. - Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles (fried chicken, waffles, good southern cookin'!)
In Seattle - Iron Horse (not sure if it's still open, but it's small, and your food is served to you on an automated train that runs next to the tables)
In Reno/Northern Cal - Jimboys (fast mexican food which is delicious but causes gastric distress the next day)
In Reno - Little Nugget Casino (have an Awful Awful at the kitchen in this dingy little Casino on Virginia Street)
In Chicago - White Castle hamburgers (small, square shaped burgers, crinkle cut fries, cheap)

Our favorite restaurant is Joy Yee Noodle in Naperville, IL. They do have another restaurant in Chinatown Chicago and one in Evanton, IL. It is a Pan Asian restaurant with very sparse decorations. The window has plastic versions of all their creative dishes. They use stone dishes, bambo dishes, coconut shells, and cast iron pans. The food is fantastic and they serve it quick.
The walls are bright yellow green and they have a wall of yellow, green and blue little glass tiles. Here they have their exotic fruit which they make into fruit smoothies and bubble tea.
You won't be disappointed by ANYTHING on the menu.

I live in Philadelphia Pa, so there are tons of great resteraunts.
the Melting Pot is a fondue resteraunt where they melt the cheeses infront of your seat. You also get to cook your own meat in heated oil they serve to you.
And finally they give you a pot of chocolate, and ignite it on fire, right on your table. Its an expensive, but extremely good resteraunt where all the work is done by the servers right on your table.

The most Famous Place I can think of is the Acropolis. It is a strip club but it has awesome steaks. IT also has the 2 pound burger and the 10 egg omlette.
