This was a conversation between my friend and I.

Me: In Europe, they don't sing or rap about drugs and sexually explicit things like they do here.
My friend: Then what in the h*** do they sing about?

So basically, he thinks that's the only thing to sing about.

I agree. I can also say this, if parents have better control and pay closer attention to what their children are watching, doing, and listening too, it won't be a huge problem.

The music is horrible and so are a lot of the television programs, including those for kids. Have you watched any of the modern cartoons and heard some of the things that are being said in them? WOWEE.

I agree with you! My parents used to think music from the 60's was bad but today's music is much worse. They don't play the new music in Europe unless it is different because the parents, teachers, press, and the general public are more concerned about the future of the children living there.

Can I suggest you listen to The Streets before deciding what Europeans do or don't sing about. Thats just one random example but lyrically the content is about drugs, sex, celebrity and modern urban life. As for bad messages, thats frankly ridiculous. Arm yourself with an education and you have nothing to fear from controversial or explicit lyrics because you'll know right from wrong. Except that Marilyn Manson, he made me bite my parrot's head off with his satanic warbling!

It doesn't really influence us, it's just entertaining. So when parents hear the music and see us doing bad things, what do you think they are going to think? It's just an easy thing to blame bad things on... I mean I hear music all about selling drugs and going to jail, and having sex and getting pregnent.. it's 50/50 I know that didn't make sense

Yes! A lot of today's music openly promotes racism and the debasing and physical abuse of women.

maybe they're getting bad messeges from rap and r and b, and the latest popular faux punk bands, but there are always musicians who actually write songs that provoke thought in positive ways.

I hate to generalize, but Americans don't realize how other countries live, and are merely blindsided by thier "freedom."
