They're like flying squirrels. Of course, they don't fly, but they do glide. They have flaps of skin between their legs that allow them to glide. They're so light, those flaps can hold them up for short periods of time. They used to be a rare pet, but lately they have been the new craze. Sugargliders are expensive, but apparently cute enough to make up for the cost.
They are somewhat hard to take care of, requiring some extensive care. They get scared easily and can die of heart failure if scared too much. Sugargliders are nocturnal, so the best time to play with them is in the evening before you go to bed.
If you ever want a unique strange pet, sugargliders are perfect.

The Sugar Glider (Petaurus breviceps), sometimes called the Flying Sugar, is a small gliding possum native to eastern and northern mainland Australia, New Guinea, and the Bismarck Archipelago, and introduced to Tasmania.
