My instructor from the college stated in my syllabus for drawing 2 that the list of materials include but are not limited to:
The biggest sketch pad you can find
A series of artist graphite pencils, HB, 2B, 4B...up to about 8B.
Charcoal Pencils or rectangular boxed chalk
Size 8 round brush
Color pencils
2 erasers: the kneaded (Grey) and the white kind.
Exacto knife
Portfolio holder
A metal ruler
Hope this was helpful. Oh and of course creativity with a good eye and hand coordination.

Tools can vary greatly depending on the type of artist. Since this is the drawing section, most illustrators will need the obvious supplies. Various types of paper, various types of pens and lead and charcoal pencils, colored pencils, colored and gray markers, straight edge, and possibly some kind of software like Adobe Illustrator.

Depends on the kind of artist. I guess the broadest definition of what's needed is material that can be molded, painted on, written on, or otherwise show an artist's project.
Now if you are referring to specific tools that a particular kind of artist needs, you need to narrow your question down. As for me, I need paper and pen because this artist is a writer.

whatever element of art you choose(painting/drawing/sculpting/writing) the supplies needed for that. and then a good amount of time set aside to work on it. usually when you start working your mind will switch to the right hemisphere and creativity will come out. music usually helps. few distraction. i have to draw at night when everyone is asleep.
