Drum, as opposed to disk brakes? They self adjust every time you back up and stop. If they are not working they probably need to be replaced, not adjusted.

raise the back of the car off the ground and on the rear drums on the inside of them you will see a rubber plug, pull the plug out, get a flashlight or trouble light and look in the hole you will see a wheel gear, make sure the transmission is in neutral and turn the tire, you should hear the brake pads dragging on the drum,, if you don't you will have to get a brake spoon or sometimes you can do it with a screwdriver and turn that gear in the up direction, you will hear a clicking noise that will tell you that the brakes are adjusting up, keep adjusting until you hear the brake dragging on the drum as you turn the tire, do the same to the other rear brake and try to keep both brakes the same as far as the amount of drag on each wheel.

i own a repair shop, and you,ll probably need to take the rear wheels off of it and adjust the back brakes up manually on it sometimes the self adjusters wont do this good enough to give you a good pedal,i always do this manually anyway, and if you replaced the rear brakes you should have a real good pedal, the only thing that will cause a bad loss of pedal on the rear would be air ,or them being out of adjustment, and maybe a master cylinder going bad on it ,right off this is all i can think of to tell you, with all of this you should get a pretty good pedal back on it,good luck with it i hope this help,s.

If you have drum brakes on rear, with engine running, see if the pedal height comes way up after you pmp the pedal 5 or 6 times fast. That would tell you if it's adjustment problem. If the pedal doesnt come up there's some other problem.

that could be anything from the mastercylinder to the proportioning valve...I am assuming that you have adjusted them using the star wheel in the brake drum assembly. Also check for leaks, bad lines, and proper wheel cylinder pressure...

You need to adjust your rear breaks. If your break peddle is low it is always your rear .Jack up your rear tires and use a break adjusting tool.Adjust them until you can feel a dragging on your drums.Adjust both sides. Then your breaks should be OK.
