That added to some another reason. Many coaches dislike his style of play, they say he really is a selfish player.
Ex. Melo got a steal and Iverson was down court. No one got in Melo's way, so instead of passing to Iverson, who was near the foul line, he drove to the basket, from half-court, and went up for a dunk. Selfish?
There are probably other reasons too.

yes because everyone talks of character players and what not, and since he got in a fight that gives him a bad rep, and we know how david stern feels about the hip-hop style and "gangster" acts, so thats definetly why he was left out, BUT look at Alonzo Mourning he got in several fights, and he made multiple all-star games, and people wanted him to make this one, so really Melo should have made it because people live and learn, he sat out and his team struggled a little without him which is a big punishment considering the good record they had before he got suspended, and look what he did with team USA he's young and explosive, get him in there.

Yes, but not necessarily because people thought of him as less of an athlete. Since his 15 game suspension took place during the major push for balloting, people were probably primarily focused on those who were playing and who they just saw on ESPN's top plays the night before.

It made his images worse, when it was going up. No doubt it played a large role in him not making to the All Star game but he did make it on the ballot.
