And, does a house made of wood appreciate and last less than a house made of bricks?

Generally a house with wood siding will not tolerate the elements as well as brick. Brick is normally more aesthetic and will be more valuable at resale time.

I live in Michigan. My house was framed with wood, but the exterior is all brick. The only houses I've seen made entirely of wood are the old victorians and farmhouses, and they're usually REALLY old. I do notice though that most of the new houses going up now are only "faced" with brick. Not like the 40-50 year old homes that used whole bricks to build.

As previous posters had mentioned brick homes have a wood frame and the brick is just a facade. As far as appreciation is concerned both a brick building and wood building depreciate in value; what drives up prices is land value. In reality most homes are made of wood, brick is used more for commercial buildings.

Most brick houses have wood framing.

There's not a lot of clay in the north, which is why bricks are popular in the south.
